Job Shadowing

Job shadowing allows students to experience a full or a half-day in the workplace of an engineering alumni. Students are able to see first-hand how skills learned from class are practically utilized in the workplace and their potential career options. Exposure to different companies is also gained through this valuable experience.

You can help students investigate the skills, educational requirements, work environment, and lifestyle that accompany all aspects of your career.

By participating as a sponsor, you become a mentor, sharing your insights and experiences with a student. You play an active role in educating students about your career field and the workplace.

Potential Extern activities include:

  • shadowing and observing the sponsor and other staff members in their daily work activities
  • touring the sponsor's establishment, departments, and facilities
  • conducting information interviews with staff
  • observing the work environment and attending meetings
  • becoming involved in a small project

Sponsor Benefits

  • expose your organization to students and promote your industry
  • observe the capabilities and interests of this highly motivated group
  • benefit from the students' skills and ideas
  • keep abreast of current teaching methods and qualifications
  • enjoy the energy and ideas students bring to your business environment
